Anyway, this week has certainly be a challenging one. Again, Ian came home early from daycare on Tuesday with a fever. Everytime I see daycare's phone number pop up on my caller ID (after working all night the day/night before) my skin almost peals right off. I swear there isn't a single person that knows how to use an ear thermometer in that place. Well, let me rephrase that, there are VERY few individuals that know how to really use them.

Let me just put my two cents in about ear thermometers, I HATE THEM. I always have and always will. If you don't use them correctly you might as well turn the dang thing on and set it across the room from your child. In any case, I would much rather take an axillary (armpit) or oral or...yes, you're all going to cringe...rectal. As soon as Sophia was able to keep her lips closed over a thermometer...we have used it that way. God love it. I can't wait til Ian can understand that concept.
Ok...now where were we...OH...back to the little man. Ian had another run in with hand, foot, and mouth disease. The poor kid has (now) healing blisters all over his lips, mouth, and tongue. The blisters on his hands, butt, and feet just started showing up yesterday and today. I guess it isn't uncommon for kids to get this virus more than once. Most of the time when they get a virus, they build up a little immunity, and don't have a huge problem if they encounter the same virus again. Fortunently...pfst!...for us there are several different strains of HFM disease that kids can end up with multiple infections. In any case, needless to say, this week has been very sleep starved....for me at least!

I find it so hillarious when I'm home from work over night and MY tail is up all night off and on with the sick kids...or even with the non-sick kids. Warren always says, "They never wake up during the night when your at work!" I guess the more accurate interpretation of that is...HE rarly wakes up at night when he is alone at home with the kids. Lord! He could sleep through nuclear war! If one of the kids sigh or sneeze gently I'm snapped into a jarring state of alertness. Not sure if it is the mom in me...or the nurse. Maybe its a combo of both. Let me just tell ya...it use to be 100% worse. That is what I blame for the post partum crap I had with Sophia.

Anyway, I have the next four days off from work. I'm looking forward to lots and lots and lots and lots of sleep in those four days...and..well...that is the way it's GOING to freaking be. I can not describe the feeling of pure utter exhaustion you experience when you work all night long, come home and stay awake with the kids all day, and then have to function late into the night. Takes me back to the early days with the kids. As much as I love my kids, I never want to go back to the days where you only sleep a total of four hours a week b/c your busy with a newborn the first months of their life. I miss the cuddle moments and the new baby smell...but I don't miss the crazy ass sleep deprived state. Dang!
Well, I hope to get both the kids out to the annual Wine and Balloon festival tomorrow night. Sophia and I went last year and it was so much fun! I didn't partake in the wine last year, but after the week I've had...I'm going to most certainly partake this year.
