On Wednesday, January 5th the Omaha community was rocked yet again by another tragedy that I thought wouldn't/couldn't happen to us. Please say a prayer for all the individuals who were involved in the Millard South High School shooting. Just before 1 p.m. yesterday, a MSHS senior walked into the assistant Principal's office and shot her. Later yesterday it was announced that she had died of her injuries. The principal for MSHS was shot as well and is still currently hospitalized recovering from his injuries.
Our next door neighbor is a teacher at MSHS and he was unharmed in the event, but still...this whole thing touches to close to home. These are the things that you think only happen in large cities. The kids' daycare is just down the street from MSHS and they were on lock down yesterday afternoon like the rest of the Millard Public School district. Lucky for them, they were unaware of anything that was going on. I didn't have any clue about what was going on yesterday afternoon b/c I was sleeping during the day from working over night Tuesday.
I don't really know the school officials involved in this tragedy but it brings great sadness to my heart when things like this...violence...happen anywhere...especially in our community. There is never a place that seems safe enough for our children. As we learned a few short years ago, it isn't even safe to go out shopping during the Christmas season either.
I know that I seem needy in the prayer department as of late, but I would like to ask you all to pray for Dr Kaspar's family. I can't even imagine the sadness and grief that her family is feeling right now. She died the day before her 59th birthday. Also, please pray for Dr. Case and his family at this time while he recovers from his injuries. Lastly, please pray for the family of the shooter, Robert Butler, Jr, as well. I can't even imagine the sadness they must be experiencing at this time as well. Any loss is still a burden for sadness for any family.
Thank you for your time, and I pray that each and everyone of us live like today is our last. We never know the day or the hour that may be our last. Each moment, each slice of time is a blessing for us all. As we have seen, on several levels, events happen that can change our lives forever. Thank you Lord for every blessing.
