Holy Snow, Batman!!!

I think my title says it all for the weather outside. It is/has been certainly frightful. On December 24 we were hammered (along with the rest of the middle of America) with a frick'in butt load of snow!
It was my scheduled major holiday at the hospital, and one of the worst possible things to happen on Christmas actually happened. I was stuck at Methodist Hospital. *Wha, wha, wha, wha* Unfortunately for me, we do not have a 4WD vehicle, and let me tell you...NO ONE without 4WD should have been out and about on Christmas day. It was a nightmare!!!
As a result of the crummy circumstances, I made the decision to get a hotel room with another girl I work with, and we spent Christmas day locked away at the Comfort Inn by Billy Frogs off of 90th & Dodge. Bad decision! I wonder if the other night nurses from Children's Hospital had a bad experience like we did? We were stationed close to the elevator and the frick'in elevator kept dinging...therefore waking us up from our slumber on multiple occasions. You would think the rest of the world could give us night workers a little peace and quiet...ON CHRISTMAS!!!
At noon there was no hope for anymore sleep so we got up and turned on the TV. Surprisingly enough there wasn't much more about the weather on except what we already knew. I was stuck with nothing but the scrubs from the hospital and the clothes on my back. I contemplate taking my computer to work Christmas Eve, but I was afraid of jinking myself into a crappy night. I should have listened to my instincts and brought it. At least I would have had another link to the outside world other than my cell phone. My iTouch died sometime last week and I hadn't noticed until Christmas day.
Anyway, I made the obvious poor decision to run across Dodge to the Walgreen's on 90th and Dodge. It was to my advantage and disadvantage to have a crap load of snow around. Advantage: the only time you can safely jaywalk across Dodge is when there is a foot of snow on the ground. Disadvantage: there was a foot of snow on the ground and it was A&* cold! The snow managed to slip into my boots when a snow drift psyched me out. I thought this pile of snow was a shallow one, but ended up rendering me up to my hips in snow!
When I finally hopped into the wonderful paradise of Walgreen's I pulled the snow out of my boots just in time to save my lower legs from frostbite! Holy canolis (sp?), that was the coldest short trip I've ever taken across a street in Nebraska. All I could hear was my mother saying, "Rosie! What were you thinking, honey!?" Well, at least I was able to shower the hospital smell off of me with my Herbal Essence shampoo and conditioner from Wall of the Green's! Not only did I pick up shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and makeup from Walgreen's, but I intensified my resolving upper respiratory infection. I just can't seem to shake this crap this year.
Anyway, in the end, I ended up getting PTO'd on Christmas day night. They called me to the hospital just in case they had someone that wasn't able to get through the snow, but, lucky for me, everyone showed up in a timely fashion. The house supervisor told me I could go home at 2015! WOOHOO! Now the real work was about to begin!
Little did I know Christmas day that my battery in my Pacifica was over four years old! Methodist security jumped my SUV for me, and I started out into the snowy tundra of Omaha. Thanks be to God that the Omaha snowplows were out and about keeping at least the main roads relatively clean. Lucky for me the only problem I had getting home was getting into my driveway. We had snow half the way up our garage door!
Jeff Banker, our wonderfully helpful neighbor, helped Warren and I dig a path so my car could get into the garage. I have never been so happy to be home in ALL MY LIFE!!! It seemed like a lifetime since I last saw my family. I even snuck in and woke Ian up to wish him a 1st merry Christmas! Gosh...how I missed them!
Well, hope you are all stay'in nice and warm. Hopefully most of your Christmas wishes came true!!!
