Your boss is suppose to have your back, right?

Ok...let me preface this entry as such...

I refuse to go into great detail b/c 1) I need my job and 2) I need my job. Dude...isn't your boss suppose to have your back on leadership decisions that are made per policy or understanding. Today one of our newer nurses approached our boss and whined about how she always floats and how our charge on nights has it out for her. She was crying that she always gets floated. Well I guess this is what happens when IT'S YOUR TURN TO FLOAT! Whine, whine, whine, whine. Lazy, over confident people always get my goat.

In any case, we just had a new boss start working on our unit. This is his first job as a nurse manager. I guess he has held management positions in the military...but...lordy, lordy...did anyone tell him that his position on our unit doesn't entitle him to treat us as his subordinates? Disrespect breads disrespect. How can you expect anyone to treat you with respect if you can't model that behavior for everyone else.

So...one of my friends was approached very inappropriately by our new boss...out in the open mind you...about some policy supported issues about floating. I accidentally happened upon this conversation. I really should have been listening in, but it was like a bad accident...you know you should just walk away, but dude...a friend of mine was stuck in the crossfire. I could have just let it all go! I knew I had to hold my tongue. If it weren't so important to have benefits and a paycheck waltzing through the door I probably would have let our boss have it. How dare he speak to anyone...especially a charge nurse out in the open like he did. If you have a problem with the way something is being done...pull that person/s aside within the privacy of your own office to confront them about the issue.

I dunno...I guess I should stop while I'm ahead. I guess our turn over for bosses is about 2 years...so...I guess we only have one year and 10 months left to burn.
